How to make a homemade fruit picker

If you are lucky enough to have fruit trees in your house, in your neighborhood or in the place where you have chosen to spend a few days off, you know how satisfying it is to eat the fruits that you have picked yourself.

But you may also know how difficult it is sometimes to collect them at the right time, when they are about to fall, before they reach the ground and can be eaten by other beings, for example insects.

In this tutorial you will learn how to easily and quickly make a perfect picker to reach the fruits that are higher on the fruit trees, and thus enjoy all their natural flavor.

With a two-liter soda bottle you can make one like the one in the picture, ideal for apples or oranges, but you can build a smaller one with a small bottle.

If you have fruit trees within your reach, read on, but if you don’t, you can read how to grow fruit trees in pots, or why not, learn the story of the young woman who created a map of all the fruit trees in her city, to find out where you can find fruit trees in yours.

Materials

  • An empty plastic bottle
  • a cutter
  • some sharp scissors
  • A broomstick or similar
  • A sander (or a saw and sandpaper)
  • A strong bolt and a nut

1. With the help of the cutter, pierce the bottle, near its base, so that a fruit fits in it. You can carefully heat the plastic with a lighter (without bringing the flame directly near it) to make it easier for you.

It should look like this:

2. Now prepare the stick. You have to sharpen one of its ends so that it fits through the spout of the bottle. Sand it down and, if you need to, saw it.

3. Insert the stick into the bottle and secure it with the screw.
