Materials

The following must be pieces of resistant wood, which does not rot easily:

  • 4 posts of 4 x 4, 7′ 6.5″ feet (Approx 2.15 meters)
  • 2 x 4 x 6 beams, 12′ feet (3.75 meters)
  • 8 boards of 4 x 6, 8 feet long (2.30 meters)
  • 11 pieces of 2 x 4 x 6 feet (1.8 meters)
  • 4 braces of 2.6 feet (80 centimeters)
  • 8 corner pieces (45°) to decorate (optional)

1. Get the parts for your pergola. Choose a wood that resists being outside. Or you can, for example, treat it with a natural method to protect it.

2. Set the 4 posts in the ground, about 80 centimeters apart (the length of your braces) on the sides, and 3.75 meters (12 feet) long. Remember that you can modify all the measures depending on your needs.

3. Depending on the ground on which you want to mount the pergola, you may find these special pieces useful to fix the posts in a concrete base. You can get them at a hardware store.

4. Fix the beams on the posts. Then, fasten them with the planks that will also act as covers for the beams.

5. Attach the braces to join each side of the pergola. First fix the straight ones well, and then add the decorative pieces you want.

6. Finally, place the top pieces. You may need a ladder.
