Mosaicism is a very old art that is made using small pieces of different textures, shapes and colors. The designs are very different: they can form geometric or figurative creations through the union of pieces called “tiles”.
In addition to being very simple, the technique allows you to reuse pieces of stone, ceramic, glass or other materials that you would normally throw away, creating designs that add color to your home or garden.
In this note you will learn the basic step by step to apply this technique with your personal and creative touch. Dare to do it!
Necessary materials
– Spatula or trowel
– Sponge or cloth
– Pieces of glass, ceramics or the material you have obtained
– Mass of lime, plaster or mortar (grout)
– White adhesive or cement
General procedure for decorating with mosaics
1. Draw with a light pencil the design you want to achieve on the surface you have chosen.
2. Spread the adhesive or white cement with a small spatula and place the pieces one by one.
3. Cover the spaces that have been left free with the filling mass (grout paste).
Note: If you have, for example, a broken pottery and you want to reuse it to do this technique, place a cloth over it and hit it carefully with a hammer on a rigid surface. Then you can adapt the pieces to your design with the help of tweezers.
4. Wait 10 minutes and remove excess paste with a sponge or cloth.
5. Let dry for 24 to 48 hours. And ready!
As you will see, the general procedure is very simple, but best of all, the mosaic decoration ideas and designs are varied and very original. Take note of these options and get inspired to create your own with your personal stamp!
