How to detect what is stealing your energy

Most people know the agonizing feeling of feeling, for days at a time or even months, that they have no energy at all.

You have to be careful with these situations (whether you suffer them or if it is happening to a loved one) because not feeling like anything can be one of the symptoms of depression.

But also, in other cases, it can be the result of situations that are “stealing your energy”. Obsessive thoughts, toxic relationships or exhausting efforts to solve something without a solution are some of the most common causes of not having energy for anything.

What is stealing your energy and how to focus it where it is good for you?

1. Tasks you don’t want to do

Many times, a task that you don’t like at all can be perceived by the mind as requiring all available energy, leaving you wanting to do nothing else. Whether it takes you just one day a week (like taking a class you don’t want to take) or a few minutes a day (taking care of a responsibility at work or home), a task you hate can be terrible. If you can, try to delegate or eliminate it, and if not, be aware that this activity is taking away your energy so as not to dedicate more to it than it deserves.

2. Toxic people or relationships

There is not much to say about this. Simply that you should not spend your time and energy thinking or arguing with people who are not good for you.

3. Broken promises

All pending tasks drain energy because you spend time thinking that you haven’t completed them yet, but not finishing them. If you have something pending because you promised it to a friend or to yourself, don’t wait any longer and do it now. You will feel much freer and relieved afterwards.

4. Lack of rest

If you need to rest, rest. It will be more effective and satisfying if you delay the tasks you don’t want to do and do them when you feel good, than if you force yourself to work when you’re exhausted and can’t get anything done.

5. Complaints

It is perhaps the most important key to life: the time you invest in complaining, spend it in transforming what bothers you into something better.

6. Clutter

The mess outside is reflected inside. If the space in which you live, rest or work is cluttered and full of objects that should not be there, you will feel overwhelmed and tired. Spend a Sunday morning tidying up the house and throwing out everything that no longer works and watch how everything seems easier.

7. Neglected health

When you feel tired many times it is a signal from your body to avoid a worse crisis. If you don’t have energy, stop to think if you’re eating well, if you don’t have any other symptoms, and how long it’s been since you had a checkup to make sure everything is fine.

8. Situations that overload you

In what are you investing that energy that you say you don’t have? Many times a well-intentioned action, such as helping a friend or family member who is not having a good time, can be too much for one person and prevent you from taking care of yourself as well. When you need it, ask for help, whether it’s from a friend, family or a professional.

9. Grudges

Resentment and anger are negative feelings that don’t make sense to spend your time and energy on. Forgive and leave space in your soul and in your mind for new experiences to come.

10. Resistors

Nothing drains your energy more than resisting the inevitable or trying to prevent a situation that will happen anyway. ACCEPT with serenity what life has prepared for you.
