reuse bottles of glass and decorate your home with this project. The good thing about using alcohol-based inks is that when you get bored with the design, you can wipe them off with a cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Thus, you can create a new pattern.
How to make the inks
Materials
- – Permanent markers.
- – Isopropyl alcohol (70%).
- – A glass container.
- – A plastic bottle to store the inks.
- – Scissors
- – cutter
- – Pliers
- – A pint.
- – Something to cover the work surface.
Instructions1. Cover the work surface well.2. Put 1/4 to 1/3 cup of rubbing alcohol in the glass container. You can use less for a more focused tone, or more for a softer tone.3. With the pliers, remove the tip of the marker. Place it inside the container with alcohol.4. You will also need the cartridge that contains the ink. This is a tube that is inside the body of the pen. Depending on which one you’re using, you may need to use a utility knife to cut through the plastic and remove it. Other markers have a snap-on cap at the top. If this is the case, you will only have to remove it to access the cartridge.
5. When you have extracted it, cut it in the middle with scissors. With the utility knife, make a slit along each half. Then, place both halves in the bowl of rubbing alcohol. Cover it and let it rest for at least an hour.6. At the end of this time, remove both halves of the cartridge using a pair of tweezers and discard them.7. Put the ink in another container to store it.
How to decorate the bottles
Materials
- – A clean and dry glass bottle.
- – Alcohol-based inks.
- – Isopropyl alcohol.
- – Metallic inks that can be combined with alcohol-based inks (optional).
- – A felt pad with applicator.
- – Transparent acrylic sealer.
Instructions1. Put the ink on the felt pad. You can do it randomly or create a pattern that you like.
2. Use the pad to stamp your glass bottle.
3. If you don’t want the pattern to be so sharp, you can wet the felt pad with a little isopropyl alcohol. Once this is done, stamp your bottle again. Thus, you will obtain an appearance similar to the veins of marble, like the one seen in the first bottle in the image.
4. When you like how it looks, set the ink with a coat of clear acrylic sealer.Sources:Make your own alcohol inksCool jar series – Part I
