How to build a raised garden with benches step by step

There are many ways to have your garden: even if you have little space, you can build vertical gardens, or gardens in bags.

In this note you will learn how to make a garden in a raised bed for your garden. This design has a very important advantage: being above the ground, it will allow you to take care of your plants and crops without curving your back downwards, so it can be a great option if you suffer from discomfort in the spine or neck.

In addition, you can take advantage of the structure to add practical benches around your green space.

Pieces of wood
(for a garden with a side of 120 centimeters and a height of 45 centimeters)

  • 12 boards 120 centimeters long and 15 wide (sides)
  • 8 boards 50 centimeters long and 15 wide (seats)
  • 8 rods 35 centimeters long (internal supports)
  • 4 boards 45 centimeters high and 10 wide (for finishing)
  • 4 boards of 35 x 10 centimeters (bench supports)
  • 8 right triangles of 25 centimeters of side to which you can remove the tip (to hold the benches)

Tools

  • Miter saw or circular saw
  • Drill
  • clamps
  • Measuring tape
  • A box of nails and another of strong screws

Process

1. To start, prepare the side pieces. To do this, join three of the 48-inch side boards together using two 18-inch-high rods to support them. Nail them very well. You will need to do this with all 4 sides.

2. Assemble the four benches: they have two pieces for the seat attached to a piece that will support them by means of two triangles.

3. When you have the benches ready, screw them to the outside of the side pieces, holding onto the piece that acts as a support. Use enough screws per piece to make it sturdy.

4. Join all the pieces and reinforce the sides with the four boards you prepared as a finish.

Once your structure is ready, fill it with fertile soil, and plant whatever you want in it!
