If you frequently use a bicycle to move around the city, you know that they have much more than 10 benefits, and that in addition to being beautiful, they are the friendliest means of transport with the planet. Therefore, what better place to store them than a garage with a green roof, as sustainable as it is?
This ingenious idea can be used not only to store your bicycle, but anything else you have in your garden and want to leave indoors at night.
Building it is not very difficult, and you can take advantage of the small green space to have a very nice mini-garden!

Before putting together your garage with a green roof, you should know that there is no correct way to do it, but placing a vegetation roof over the shed where you will store your vehicle is an idea that you can apply to the covered parking lot you want.
Even if you already have some kind of bike rack in your yard, you can just put the green roof on top.
This model is a sliding garage with rails, 2.2 meters long and 1.2 meters wide, for example. You can follow this scheme for its construction, but also choose the model that suits you best, in which your bicycle fits and you can do in your park.
1. Guided by these diagrams, or creating your own, cut out of wood all the pieces necessary to build the shed.
2. Assemble the pieces, and make sure that the roof of the shed is consistent and reinforced, so that it can support the weight of the substrate and the vegetation.
3. If you opt for the sliding model, you will have to build the inner drawer a few centimeters smaller than the parking space, as you can see in the image, and then install the rails on the floor, and the sliding wheels on the structure. You’ll need some carpentry skills, but it’s not as hard as you think!
4. Once you have placed all the pieces, you will need to place the sliding compartment on the rails and check that it moves correctly. It is important to test that everything works before assembling the green roof, because later it will be difficult for you to fix the construction with the vegetation on it.
5. You can also place some hooks inside the garage, to be able to store not only the bicycle, but also all your cycling equipment.
6. On the outside of the shed, you must build a border about six inches high, which will contain the substrate and vegetation.
7. When the structure is finished, now yes, to assemble the green roof!
The procedure has three parts: placing an impermeable membrane, covering it with substrate (drainage, stones and soil), and finally placing grass seeds or planting the vegetation of your choice. They must be plants whose roots grow horizontally, and not downwards, so that they do not damage the ceiling of your garage.
