You travel to the capital of Ireland and want to know how much money you need, in this article I explain how much does it cost to travel to Dublin. I propose a route of 3 full days and we will leave a fourth day for the arrival to the city which could be from London, Edinburgh, Belfast or more.
The moderate traveler’s budget, but which includes activities, hotel accommodation in the center and meals between restaurants and fast food, would cost 642 euros.
While the reduced budget, in which you stay in a hostel and do mainly free activities, is 432 euros.
If you prefer a video, below is my experience and costs on my last trip to Dublin.
How much does it cost to stay in Dublin?
Dublin is not a cheap city and you will notice it from the accommodation. Staying in a well-rated hostel in the city center can cost around 70 euros per night for a bed in a shared room. If you are looking for a private room, well-rated accommodations cost around 200 euros. But here you will have to share with someone else.
- For 4 nights in a hostel we would talk about 280 euros.
- For 4 nights in a hotel it will be 400 euros.
If you want to know what accommodations are recommended in the city, I leave you options here.
How much do Dublin attractions cost?
Below is my list of basic activities in Dublin:
Day 1 in Dublin
Tour of the center of Dublin where I recommend taking a Free Walking Tour, where you set aside 10 euros for the tip. To this would be added the entrance to the famous Trinity College library in Dublin, where entry costs 18 euros. One more visit would be to enter the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral with a cost of 8 euros. Finally, we would stay with the visit only to the outskirts of Dublin Castle, since although it is one of the main attractions, it can partially be visited from its exteriors. Recommendation that I would give you considering that it is a reconstruction, but if you want to enter you would have to add 12 euros.
π You can reserve your Free Walking Tour here.
Total For day 1 we will add 36 euros.
Day 2 in Dublin
Continue your visit to Dublin on this occasion the paid visit will be the visit to Guiness Storehouse, the cost is from 26 euros. You can buy it on the official website. You can complement your day with a visit to a museum, remember that they are free in Dublin.
Day 3 in Dublin
I recommend taking a tour to the outskirts of Dublin. You can visit the Cliffs of Moher, the Giant’s Causeway or the Wicklow Mountains. For this case we will take the visit to the Cliffs of Moher which was the one I did for 79 euros. You can book the excursion in Spanish and with free cancellation here.
π Travel tip. If you want to know what the main excursions in Dublin are, click here.
In total we are talking about 141 euros in paid activities.
If your budget is limited you could just stay with the Cliffs of Moher tour and a Free Walking Tour that you can book here. This way you would pay 89 euros.
How much does it cost to eat in Dublin?
The cost of eating in Dublin will depend on your budget. And although there are fast food or supermarket options for less than 5 euros for simple but complete meals, your budget could also increase in typical pubs. Below are some costs:
- Typical fish and chips at Leo Burdock’s: 15 euros
- Irish breakfast: from 12 to 16 euros.
- Beer in a pub in the Temple Bar area: 7 euros in Temple Bar, in the rest of the bars approximately 5 euros.
- Promotional menu at Mc’Donalds: 6 euros.
Considering this, I spent about 25 euros a day on food, combining fast food options and some pubs. In total, for 4 days 100 euros which could easily be reduced to 50 euros if you only go for supermarket and fast food.
How much does it cost to get around in Dublin?
To get from the airport to the city you have the option of using public transport or the bus (e.g. Dublin Express) focused on travelers. The second option is more expensive, but ideal if you bring suitcases. The round trip is 8 euros.
To this we must add transportation in the city. The good news is that if you stay in the center, as I would recommend, you can practically walk throughout the city, for me this is the best option. However, if you use public transportation the cost would be 16 euros for 72 hours. The option I would recommend.
Total: 24 euros if you decide on the unlimited transport card.
In my case I only paid 8 euros for transportation to and from the airport and a bus transportation ticket of 2 euros and a tram ticket of 3 euros to move to specific points on my trip. So I added 13 euros to the budget.
Total
For a moderate budget traveler it would be 642 euros for the 4 days.
