The route starts in London, continues by the famous Eurostar train to Paris. The next stop is Amsterdam, from there we will fly to Venice and by train we will arrive in Rome. From Rome the easiest and cheapest thing is to fly to Barcelona and from there we will have several alternatives to get to Madrid. The route ends in Madrid, so from Barajas Airport we will take the plane back home.

Step by step route

London: first stop

The tour begins in London and it is a good entry to the European continent due to its geographical location and because it has airports with good connections to many destinations around the world. What does this mean? That it is easier to get cheap flights.

  • Stay time: arrival day and 2 full days
  • Recommended accommodation in London: Hostel One Notting Hill 1.8 km from Hyde Park in the Kensington and Chelsea area. Beds in a shared room start at $29. More information and reservation here.
  • Budget per day in London: 112 euros (backpacker)
  • Budget for 3 days in London: 336 euros
  • If you do not have a backpacker budget, the budget will rise to 169 euros for travelers who prefer 3-star hotels. For 3 days it would be 507 euros.

πŸ‘‰ How do I get from London to Paris?

The fastest and most comfortable way to get around is on the Eurostar train. The tour takes just over 2 hours and can be purchased from 52 euros at a promotional price. However, you will hardly get this price, so I recommend setting aside at least 100 euros if you buy your ticket at least a month in advance and up to 200 euros if you buy it days before the trip. Buy your trip here.

If you want to save time and money you can spend the night on the bus and make the trip from 35 euros (remember to buy it in advance and it may not be the most comfortable for sleeping, due to the document reviews that are done during the trip).

Paris: second stop

The next stop on the route is Paris, the capital of France. A basic city on a first trip to Europe.

  • Stay time: 3 days
  • Recommended accommodation: Les Piaules in Paris. Modern hostel surrounded by shops and restaurants. It was my decision on my last trip to Paris and the quality-price ratio is really good if we consider how expensive the city of Paris can be. More information and reservation here.
  • Budget per day in Paris: 100 euros (backpacker)
  • Budget for 3 days in Paris: 300 euros
  • If you do not have a backpacker budget, the budget will rise to 146 euros for travelers who prefer 3-star hotels. For 3 days it would be 438 euros.

πŸ‘‰ How do I get from Paris to Amsterdam?

From Paris to Amsterdam you can travel by bus, plane and train. Without a doubt the most comfortable way is to travel by train. This is a train that has only one stop in Brussels. The trip from Paris to Amsterdam is less than 4 hours and the trip normally costs 75 euros. However, if you buy it without advance notice you can end up paying more than 150 euros. Buy your train journey here.

A cheaper option would be to take the bus trip from 25 euros and take advantage of the more than 7 hours to sleep if you take it at night. Buy your bus ticket here.

Travel tip. If you have more days, it is time to make a stop in Brussels and from there take another train to reach the famous city of Bruges.

✈️ How do I get from Amsterdam to Rome?

Between Amsterdam and Rome the best way to travel is by plane. The flight lasts two and a half hours and costs about 100 euros (in promotion you can get it cheaper and in high season up to double that). You can buy this flight with the Spanish airline Vueling.com, click here to search for a flight.

There is the alternative of making the trip by train, although I do not recommend it because it involves more than 15 hours and 4 train changes. Furthermore, the cost is higher than the plane.

Rome

You cannot miss the capital of Italy during a visit to Europe. Two days can be dedicated to this trip. The first to focus on the downtown area and see attractions such as the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain, and the second to get to know the Vatican and nearby areas.

  • Stay time: 2 days
  • Recommended accommodation: The Yellow, a hostel characterized by a very good atmosphere, and which has a bar and a club. In addition, its location is very good, steps from Termini. Of course, it is mainly recommended for young people, due to its style, so below are other alternatives. More information and reservation click here.
  • Budget per day in Rome: 78 euros
