Homo Ancestor –

The Homo ancestor It is a kind of fossil type that we group within the genus Homo. Its individuals were strong and tall, with a face similar to the modern humans but with a smaller brain.

hominid tree

The discovery occurred in the deposit of Atapuerca. The fossils they are a million years old. They could be the ancestors of our species. Although its cranial capacity, as indicated above, is smaller than that of homo sapiensis a species very similar to ours with a slightly larger body volume.

evolutionary scheme

The Sierra de Atapuerca has been declared an Area of Natural Interest, an Asset of Tourist Interest and a World Heritage Site for its extraordinary findings archaeological and paleontological (at least three different species of hominids: Homo antecessor, Homo Heidelbergensis). Its location is in the province of Burgos (Castilla, León), in Spain of course.

Its discoverers were JM Bermúdez de Castro, JL Arsuaga, E. Carbonell, A. Rosas, I. Martínez and M. Mosquera.

Most of the human remains found are in an optimal state of preservation. these are generally fragments from different volumes. Many of these coincide in the marks they have: cuts, blows caused by stones, fractures, etc. All this indicates that there is a very high probability that the Homo ancestor have practiced the cannibalism. In turn, fractures have been found in the skull and in the post-cranial skeleton, which indicates a real and total consumption of the corpses.

The discovery of Homo Ancestor revolutionized the way of seeing the hominid tree. It is a discovery of greater importance because it seems to demonstrate the existence of humans inhabiting the european territory more than 800,000 years ago
