High uric acid: How to lower it and avoid diseases like gout

Uric acid is a chemical that is created in the body through the breakdown of substances called purines.

These substances are found in different foods, such as anchovies, mackerel, dried beans and peas, and beer. And so does the body.

Uric acid usually dissolves in the blood, passes to the kidneys, and is eliminated in the form of urine. But if the body produces too much uric acid or doesn’t get rid of enough of it, it can build up, leading to hyperuricemia (very high levels of uric acid in the blood).

In the long run, excess uric acid can cause diseases such as gout. This is because acid builds up in the joints, causing severe pain, swelling, and stiffness.

Luckily, there are natural methods to reduce uric acid in the blood and avoid these health disorders. In general, they have to do with incorporating certain foods or products into the diet. These are some:

1. Pineapple

Pineapple is rich in bromelain, which is an enzyme known for its powerful analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, adding pineapple to your diet can relieve pain caused by gout.

2. Turmeric

Turmeric is an ingredient of the ginger family that is very common in India and Southeast Asia.

It has been used for more than four thousand years in gastronomy and also as a natural medicine for different types of diseases. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, and its enormous role in kidney protection, it is a powerful ally for joint pain and gout.

3. Lemon juice

Lemon is acidic, but it works as a powerful natural alkalizer, which prevents many diseases.

Consuming lemon water on a daily basis prevents the formation of uric acid crystals

It is especially good to prevent gout by taking the juice of half a lemon dissolved in 200 ml of water (a glass) on an empty stomach.

4. Baking soda

It is another powerful natural remedy to prevent gout as it removes uric acid from the body. You can add a teaspoon to a glass of water and drink it in the morning.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is alkaline, and therefore has the ability to help dissolve and remove uric acid from the body.

You can add a tablespoon to a glass of water and drink it before lunch or dinner.

If you find it difficult to do this, you can start by using the raw vinegar to flavor your meals. It’s a good first step!
