After Hurricane Katrina destroyed a large part of New Orleans (United States) in 2005, some solidarity projects were carried out to help the affected families to have a home again. One of those projects had the collaboration of Brad Pitt, who created the Make It Right foundation, and benefited 109 families.
Plans from architecture studios around the world were used for the construction of these houses, which are now available as free plans for sustainable houses, which you can download below.
In addition to being free, all these plans are for sustainable houses, since their objective was that families, in addition to having a new home, could have houses prepared to save energy, take advantage of light and natural resources, and reduce waste and The trash.
The idea of releasing the plans for free is a way to reuse the ideas of these architects hundreds of times and to expand the scope of this charitable, social and sustainable initiative.
The sustainable houses designed for this project are designed to be built with recyclable materials, have solar energy, LED lighting, efficient design and be resistant to flooding and other climatic adversities in the area.
Although carrying out the constructions as indicated in the plans is not very cheap (they cost around 900 euros per square meter), the energy savings make them convenient in the long term.
