What is a web page?

The web pages are the individual documents that make up a websiteThey can be accessed through the “World Wide Web” using a browser (specific programs to access it). It is different from a website, since it is made up of several pages.

For businesses, organizations and individuals, your website is the current version of a business cardwhich is why it is designed taking into account the image that is to be conveyed. Each page within the site fulfills a specific function but at the same time responds to the general objective of the site.

The development of web pages is done through markup languages ​​(for example, HTML, PHP, ASP, JSP). These languages ​​are interpreted by browsers and allow them to:

  • Include information in various formats: texts, sounds, videos, animation, images

  • Offer interactive applications
  • Links to other pages and websites

The design of a website has several functions. It is clear that the design It must be attractive. However, it is also important that it facilitates navigation and offers the user what they are looking for. Since a website is part of the public image that a company, organization or person wants to give of itself, the design must be consistent with that image.

Optimization applies to the entire website and individual pages. Optimizing means improving the search engine friendliness of your site. This requires that your code, structure, and content be more effective in maximizing keyword visibility.

Keywords are the concepts that define the content and function of the web page. Good optimization of a page or site will give you better web positioning in search engines (SEO).

  1. Web hosting

The accommodation is storage of information, images, videos and all other content of the website. This can be done on the computer of the company, organization or person that runs the website or, more frequently, it is done through a hosting company that provides the hosting service.

In the latter case, the hosting is on a remote server. There are different types of hosting that a website can use:

  • Gratuitous. It has limitations in terms of the amount of information that can be stored, and can also generate advertising.
  • Shared: Used by clients of multiple sites on the same server.
  • Reseller. It offers a lot of space and available domains. It is designed for those who resell hosting to third parties.
  • Virtual servers (VPS). It offers control of a computer through a virtual machine.
  • Dedicated servers. It is a purchased or rented computer that is used to host the entire website. It is the opposite of shared storage, since the computer is for the exclusive use of a single user.
  • Not managed. When a company offers unmanaged hosting it means that they only provide the connectivity and resources but will not assist in cases of failures or errors.
  • Housing. This is the most basic type of hosting, as a company simply rents or sells space in a data center, plus an Internet connection. Unlike unmanaged hosting, it does not offer management tools.
  1. Static and dynamic pages

There are different types of pages, depending on whether the content is predetermined or generated when using it:

  • Static pages. When a user accesses it, the server downloads the content encoded in HTML, and this is how it is displayed in the browser. These types of pages are easily accessible but do not allow interaction.
  • Dynamic pages. They are not created with HTML but with an interpreted language such as PHP. Users can interact with these pages.
  1. Privacy on the web

Web pages can be:

  • Private. Only a limited number of people can access them. They include an access system that requires the user to identify themselves.
  • Public. They are accessible to any user through an Internet connection.

The main or Home pages are the first page that the user encounters when accessing the site. These pages usually contain:

  • Contact information. It is visible on this page or there is a link to another contact page.
  • Attractive design. Through the distribution of information, images and audiovisual content, the first impression that is intended to be made on the user is built.
  • Basic information. The institution, company or person who is the protagonist of the site is presented.
  • Links to other pages on the site. The Home page must allow the user to access other pages.

The function of many web pages (as well as entire websites) It is usually the dissemination of events or the advertising of products and services. Even pages whose main function is something else (information, interaction, Home) also fulfill this function, even if it is secondary. In order for this function to be fulfilled correctly, it is essential that the page has been optimized.

  1. Informational sites

All pages on a website contain some type of information, however, this may be the primary function of certain pages, such as institutional pages that detail how the staff is made up, news pages, or pages where articles on various topics are found. Information pages are usually those on which the user stays the longest.

  1. User interaction

When the function of a page is interaction with the user, it must necessarily be a dynamic page. All public pages on a site allow minimal interaction, since at least they can be shared through social networks. This minimal interaction can be encouraged from across the site through “share” buttons. Another way that all pages (for example information pages) can allow interaction is through the ability for users to write comments next to documents.

However, pages whose function is primarily interaction have particular formats. Some examples are forums, contact formspages that allow you to purchase products and contract services, among others.
