Verbs are words that indicate an action. They describe what he is doing, what he did, or what the subject will do within the sentence. The 5 most used verbs in Spanish are: ser, tener, hacer, ir, estar.

Within the sentence, verbs can express actions of: movement, condition, achievement, state or existence. For example:

  • Juan runs by the park.
    Run is the verb, it indicates the action of running that is happening at this precise moment and that is being carried out by Juan (subject).

The actions are carried out in 3 main times and are:

  • Past: Actions that have already happened. What the subject did.
  • Present: Actions that are happening. What the subject does.
  • Future: Actions that will happen later in time. What the subject will do.

Regular verbs

Regular verbs are those that follow a pattern or rules for their conjugation. They are easy to recognize because the conjugation never modifies its root.
