The genetic variability It refers to the modification of the genetic material (genes) of a certain type of species or population. For example: types of bears, types of snakes, types of mosquitoes.
This genetic variability is the one allows for differences arising from a particular species between its parents and its offspring. These changes indicate that the population or species evolves. In other words, without genetic variability, a species does not evolve.
Genetic variations can be given by combination of genes, by mutations or by sexuality.
- Genetic recombination (recombination of genes). When genes are moved from one population to another.
- Combination of chromosomes (Mutations). They occur when DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) combines. In this case a mutation can have a noticeable consequence.
- Sexuality. It can originate various combinations of genes (from the father and mother) that favor genetic variability.
