Everything you need to know about Google Bard: how it works, what you can do and when you can try it in Spain

The monstrous advance of generative artificial intelligence in recent months is giving much to talk about.

Major technology companies are already developing their own AI to make life even easier for users. There are already examples such as Microsoft with ChatGPT and Bing or Adobe Photoshop with Firefly, but a key player was missing from the equation: Google.

Now, after a few months since its official presentation in mid-February of this year, the American company has shown the world Bardits generative artificial intelligence with which they seek to remain on the crest of the wave.

There is a lot that is already known about AI, which is already available in 180 countries around the world, Among those, sadly, Spain is not included.and here you will find everything you need to know about Bard.

What is Google Bard

Google Bard is a generative artificial intelligence from Google that the American company has been working on for several years.

Their goal? To offer users a conversational AI tool that will provide them with “current, high-quality answers,” according to Google, to any request that comes to mind.

This AI is based on LaMDA (an acronym for Language Model for Dialog Applications), a powerful experimental language model designed by Google a couple of years ago trained with a dataset called Infiniset to improve the model’s ability to participate in dialogues and improve responses.

This Infiniset dataset includes the following:

  • 12.5% data based on C4 (Colossal Clean Crawled Corpus)
  • 12.5% English Wikipedia
  • 12.5% code documents from programming Q&A websites, tutorials, and others
  • 6.25% of web documents in English
  • 6.25% non-English web documents
  • 50% of data from public forum dialogues

On February 7, 2023, it was finally presented to society and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, described Bard as a conversational AI service that can do things like simplify difficult things, apart from providing high-quality answers.

In the end, Bard is the clear answer to ChatGPT and it will work in more or less the same way. That is, users will be able to use the chatbot to chat with it or make requests of all kinds.

How it works

Bard’s key point is that the chatbot is able to take information from the Internet in order to offer “current and quality answers” and that thus the user can obtain a complete and general response on any conceptpowering Internet searches through natural language.

This will be possible thanks to the fact that Bard will always be connected to the network and will therefore be able to constantly feed itself with updated information to offer the best possible content at all times.

The main objective is that Bard helps Google evolve its search engine to give users faster, more accurate and easier-to-understand answers. And all of this using natural language.

For example, when asking him anything, Google will now offer an AI-generated response with relevant informationlinks intended to complement the search, possible doubts or related questions at the bottom of the text to be able to continue expanding on that topic that interests you.

And, of course, below all this response will appear the native results of the web related to that search.

Besides, Bard will be an expert in programmingthanks to the fact that it has been trained with 20 different languages, including the most common ones today such as Python, ASP.NET, HTML/CSS, Ruby or Swift, among many others.

You will also be able to identify what is in a photograph thanks to the fact that will be integrated with Google Lens to know what is there and generate related texts.

And the most interesting thing for the average user: Bard is coming to Google Workspace to help you create documents in Docs, generate presentations in seconds, or create data tables in Sheets with just a few commands.

How you can test it

At the moment, Bard is available in 180 countries worldwidebut sadly the European countries, among which is logically Spain, they remain on the sidelines.

Google has not offered a reason for this absence, but has provided information on its next steps: “Bard is currently available in 3 languages and in more than 180 countries and territories. We will gradually expand to more countries and territories in a way that is consistent with local regulations and our AI principles,” they explain.

The most logical thing is that this is because the American company is waiting for the EU Artificial Intelligence Law to be fully implemented before launching Bard across the continent, but there is no date for this.

However, as long as you are in a supported region or use a VPN, you can use Google Play without any issues in English and without a waitlist.
