Made from soybeans, ecological candles are a natural alternative to illuminate the home without harming the environment. The wax they use is biodegradable and renewable. In addition, it is not toxic and its combustion produces less soot than traditional petrochemical or paraffin ones. Soy wax candles can even last 50% longer, as they burn slowly and at a lower temperature, keeping the fragrances continuously in the air.
The procedure for making them does not differ from that used for paraffin candles; the secret is only in the appropriate temperature of the wax.
With this step by step you will learn how to make them yourself using this 100% natural and ecological material obtained from a plant.
Ingredients
-Soy wax
-Fragrances for candles (optional)
-Highlights
-Fasteners (clips) for the wicks
-A pencil or small wooden stick
-colorants (optional)
-Appropriate containers for candles (can be glass or ceramic jars)
-Cooking pot
-Thermometer
Process
1. Melt the soy wax in a water bath until it reaches the temperature indicated on the package. To verify it, use the thermometer. Stir occasionally until the wax is completely dissolved.
Keep in mind that you will need about twice the amount of solid wax that fits in the container you use.
2. Add your desired fragrance and colorant to the dissolved wax. Stir.
3. Once you have the wax ready, place it in the container.
4. Hold the remaining wick so that it is stretched and centered with the help of clips and a small wooden stick or pencil.
In about 24 hours your soy candles will be dry and hard enough to use to light up any room in your home.
