Earthing: How to connect sport with nature?

Have you heard of the E?arthing? It is a lifestyle that helps us reconnect with nature. If you enjoy walking barefoot on grass or sand, you’ve probably seen its benefits before.

what does earthing mean and what does it consist of?

earthing is a verb that originates in the English language and derives from the word earth, which means land. Translated, earthing means “connection with the earth”.

Its main promoter is Clint Ober, who affirms that taking off our shoes and connecting with the earth has many health benefits. It is something that he has experienced in the first person, since he used to have trouble sleeping and certain chronic ailments.

But a discovery changed everything, after noticing that placing bare feet on the ground had a positive effect on their health. Ober noticed that the contact of the bare feet on the ground balanced the body’s electrical charges.

He himself assures that the earth would have a certain “negative” charge, from which we would disconnect when we put on our shoes. By isolating ourselves from it we become “positive” because it is the opposite charge.

Although it is an issue currently being studied and for which there is little scientific evidence, certain benefits have been proven. Some of them have to do with the reduction of muscle damage and pain, and the improvement in mood. The latter is because it decreases depression and stress levels.

have also been observed improvements in the nervous and cardiovascular systems. Although there is still much to know, it is undeniable that connecting with nature makes us feel better.

How to apply earthing in physical activity?

Walking barefoot on grass or sand it’s a good option. After a short walk, you will notice the difference in your mood. You can also swim in the sea, which is a source of electrons. Bathing in rivers, lakes or hot springs has a similar effect.

Why not practice activities like yoga or tai chi? Enjoy connecting with the earth while doing sports in a natural environment. It can be a park, a forest or the beach. If you have a garden at home, make the most of it.

If you wish, you can also meditate sitting on the ground, without using tarps or blankets that block contact with the ground. Lying down is also valid. It is important to spend between 30 and 90 minutes a dayand repeat it frequently to enjoy all its benefits.
