Covered corners to enjoy the outdoors all year round

Not everyone is lucky enough to have a large garden or patio, an outdoor space to enjoy in their own home. But for those who have it, the challenge is to think about how to take advantage of it all year long, and not just in the summer.

Also, in tropical regions where summer rains are common, having an open but covered space is ideal.

For those cases, a great idea is to build gazebos or covered corners. There are all kinds: you can build them without spending a penny, with fallen logs or reused materials; and you can also find some luxury options for a very special place.

african gazebos

This first option seems to be one of the most luxurious, but if you look closely, the central structure of this gazebo is just four trunks. It is covered with waterproof canvas on the sides and the shape of the roof, covered with straw available in the region where it was built, make it ideal for spending rainy summer afternoons in contact with nature. In addition, being protected from the rain, it is possible to decorate it with cushions.

This is a similar model, although without side canvas walls. This type of gazebo, with a conical thatched roof, is known as an “African gazebo”.

African gazebos can be adapted to your needs, for example, to be roofed with tiles or other material, if there is no straw where you live.

Both the wood and the coating can be replaced by native materials from each area.

They can also be built in a rectangular or square shape instead of the traditional round structure, and raised off the ground so they won’t be damaged by ground moisture or flooding.

Log arches, if you can get hold of some fallen ones, are very pretty, and being a rustic structure, you can easily build your own.

Creeping plants can lean on them to grow forming a pergola.

If you don’t want to cover it with vegetation, you can also use a half shade cloth.

If you don’t have access to logs and straw, you can also build a gazebo, but with wooden planks. It can even be reused, for example from pallets.

You can cover it in different ways, for example with transparent acrylic to protect it from the rain without losing sunlight.

If, on the contrary, you are looking for shade, you can repair the special corner with curtains.

You can even decorate it with fabric curtains… It may not be the most practical option, but it’s very pretty for a special occasion!

Another option is to build this simple and practical gazebo-table.
