The discovery of America took place in the year 1492, when the Spanish fleet commanded by Christopher Columbus, under the consent of the Catholic kings of Spainspotted this new continent that would later be the product of new conquests, allowing the expansion of the domain of Spain to new lands, giving rise to the birth of the Spanish Empire.

The celebrations take place every October 12 in the Plaza de Colón of Madridled by colorful military parades attended by members of the Spanish royalty, as well as officials from all the powers of the State and most of the presidents of the Spanish autonomies.
