Clay bowls easy to make without the need for an oven

Make bowls with fun designs in a very simple way. With simple materials and in a short time you can have your own containers to store everything or simply to decorate your home. You can play with the prints or drawings that you choose to put on each one, to give it your personal touch.

Materials:

– Air dry modeling clay or paste (you can also use cold porcelain, although it will have a different finish)
– Selection of stamps or any other element that you can use to make an impression
– An ink pad
– A set of small bowls
– A rolling pin
– A knife
– Some sandpaper.

Steps to follow:

1. Take the air-drying clay and knead it until it is soft. Flatten the clay until it is about 5mm thick.

2. Use your colored stamp and press firmly on the clay to mark it. Repeat this action until you have covered the clay with the patterned design.

3. Try not to press too hard on the dough as you should then lift the clay off the surface you are working on easily so that the design is not altered by the material stretching.

4. Take a bowl or container that has some depth and cut around the edge of it to mimic its circumference.

5. Remove the remaining clay to present the circle that will form your bowl. Introduce this circle inside the bowl and to give it volume, press gently with your fingertips, trying to be careful.

It’s best to try to apply pressure evenly as you work through the dough. If you press too hard the dough can break or the stamping can get caked.

6. Repeat the process until you have as many bowls as you like and let them dry overnight. The next day the printed side of the clay should be hard enough to remove from the mug. The clay on the other side may still be wet where it has been touching the glass part. Place the bowls upside down on a rack to allow both sides to dry completely.

7. When the bowls are dry, sand the edges to neaten them up.

You can varnish them if you wish, or you can add any details that you think can brighten up these picturesque decorations even more.
