Celery (scientific name: Apium graveolens)

Properties: diuretic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Being a diuretic, it helps in the case of kidney stones, urinary tract infections, and also facilitates the expulsion of uric acid. For the same reason, it helps in cases of arthritis or rheumatism. It also purifies the blood and its low caloric value makes it an interesting ingredient as a weight and diabetes aid. It contains tryptophan, an amino acid that is involved in the creation of serotonin. It favors the creation of saliva facilitating the digestion of food. It has antibacterial properties. Its richness in group B vitamins makes it an ally to keep hair, nails and skin healthy. Improves cholesterol levels, helps improve circulation as well as digestion and meteorism (gas). Its infusion is relaxing. The consequence of purifying the blood is a better state of the liver. Some authors consider it an aphrodisiac. The juice of the plant reduces cholesterol and taking the seeds improves the heart rate. The decoction of the dried root is expectorant. It also relieves stomach pain. It is alkalizing. Prevents menstrual cramps. It also helps in the lymphatic system by stopping phagocytosis. All people whose state of health is normal. Because it has less than 3% protein, it is also recommended in the regimen of nephritics. Due to its poverty in carbohydrates, it is recommended to diabetics. Good combinations: together with the carrot it turns out to be a good antioxidant. Its seeds mixed with anise, fennel, caraway and dill, make an excellent combination against gases.
