causal conjunctions

The causal conjunctions are a type of subordinate conjunction that have the function of introducing a causal subordinate clause that expresses the cause or reason of the main clause. Likewise, they can also introduce words or phrases that account for the cause of the main sentence.

Let’s remember that subordinate clauses do not work independently, but rather depend on the main clause. For example:

  • “I admire you (main sentence) because (Causal conj.) you do not rest until you meet your goals (subordinate clause)”: the conjunction because introduce the subordinate clause You don’t rest until you meet your goals.
  • “They argued (topic sentence) due (causal conjunctive phrase) “money to collect”: the causal conjunctive phrase due introduces a phrase that explains the reason for the main clause.

There are two causal conjunctions:

  • Because: “Don’t lie to him because you’ll know right away”
  • Well: “He is a bad person well do bad deeds”
