Canon EOS 800D (To Start and Not Stop)

Buy a camera is not easy. Nor is it a decision to be taken lightly. But, luckily for you, there is the Photographer’s Blog, where we strive to make things easier for you. From creating a Super Complete Guide to Buying Your First SLR Camera, to introducing you to the cameras, making a summary and telling you about the best and the worst of each one. So that you can compare, so that you can see images that you could take with them or so that you know their characteristics in a “less technical” way. Today I bring you the Canon 800D, one of the best reflex cameras for amateurs, keep reading and you will be able to discover whether or not it is an ideal camera for you ;).

Directed to…

This Canon reflex camera that arrived a few months ago to replace the 750D and 760D is for those who are looking for a first reflex, for those who are immersing themselves in this ocean of photography, but for those who plan to stay a long time. It is a camera that within the “beginner” range is one of the first, let’s say that it would be in the range of “average users”, so it is not for passing whims but for those who already love photography for the pores ;).

It is also not for those looking for a “heavy”, robust camera, this is more of a light and small camera.

Characteristic

If we talk about the specifications of the 800D, I could almost tell you to read the article on the 77D, because they are practically the same, although with some nuances that we will see later. I tell you 😉

  • Sensor: APS-C (non-full frame camera) 24 megapixelswhich allows you to enlarge your photos without losing quality to a size of approximately 60 x 34 cm
  • Dimensions: 131.0 x 99.9 x 76.2 mm, its small size is very comfortable to carry and use by small hands
  • Weight: approx. 532, it is very light
  • Viewfinder: pentamirror
  • DIGIC 7 Processor: It is a latest generation processor that offers very fast performance
  • Focus Points: 45 and all crosses, believe me, that’s a lot
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology: which translates into speed in photos and smoothness in videos. The Dual Pixel system achieves speed and precision of focus and tracking of the moving subject in videos. It is also very effective in detecting faces
  • integrated system of sensor cleaning
  • LCD screen: 3 inches, with anti-fouling coating and 100% coverage. It is tactile and allows you to focus with one finger and scroll the photos with the fingertip
  • Flip screen: you can rotate the screen to change perspectives without having to drop to the ground ;). You can even record yourself as you see yourself
  • live view mode live view: You can see how the photo will look before shooting with the option liveview, while you make adjustments you see how the image is modified until it is to your liking
  • Burst shot: 6 frames per second, so you don’t miss a single gesture!
  • recording in Full HD 60p video: 4K technology has not yet reached this camera. If you are not going to make professional videos and this is not your priority, you will not notice the difference, but if you are looking for the latest in video, better look for another option. It also works with an articulated screen and has an external microphone connector.
  • ISO: 100-25600, allows shooting in very low light conditions. (In video up to 12800).
  • Wi-Fi + NFC connection: Bluetooth low consumption connection with mobile devices. Allows you to download photos and control the camera from a smartphone or tablet.
  • White balance: AWB (Ambience priority/White priority), Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Tungsten, White, White Fluorescent, Flash, Custom. A personal setting can be registered. White balance bracketing.
  • Shutter speed: 30-1/4,000 s (in 1/2 or 1/3 stop increments), and Bulb Mode.
  • Image Styles: Auto, standard, portrait, landscape, fine detail, neutral, faithful, monochrome, and three user-defined options
  • Shooting modes: Scene Intelligent Auto (Still and Video), No Flash, Creative Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Sports, SCN (Group Shot, Night Portrait, Handheld Night Scene, HDR Backlight Control, Children, Food, Light candle light), Creative filters, Program AE, Shutter-priority AE, Aperture-priority AE, Manual (Stills and Movie)
  • Image Stabilizer 5-axis to prevent camera shake when shooting movies

The best

Its ergonomics, the tiltable touch screen and its image quality, together with its focus and subject tracking system, make this a great camera.

drawbacks

It does not record in 4k, if you are looking for the latest in video cameras you have to know that it records in FullHD.

The kit lens (Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM) is not very far, perhaps to begin with it is very versatile, but if you are somewhat demanding, better buy the king of lenses (or in its defect the prince) that you will enjoy it more.

Differences with the 77D

This time I include a section comparing with another camera because they are so similar that if you look at both you will wonder how this one differs from its older sister the 77D. Well, the differences, apart from the price and the 8g weight, are in the top LCD screen on the 77D to check any settings that the 800D doesn’t have, and in the dedicated aperture dial that the 77D has and doesn’t have. the 800D.

And what is it about the 800D that makes it a more entry-level camera? Well, an interface of suggestions to support you when learning and improving your photographs.

What really matters…

It is best to see what kind of photos you could achieve with this camera. I invite you to take a look at the photos that the users of this Gallery have taken on flickr.

You can also see the photos taken by the 77D, which in this case is the same, because the differences in the camera are external, in terms of technology they are the same, therefore the images should not differ.

Conclusions

As you have seen, to be an “initiation” camera, it is super complete and will give you a long time to walk. There are also other cheaper options for those who just want to try. Or for those who like to shoot automatically; or they simply have the whim of a SLR but they are not sure if they are going to take advantage of it. If this is not your case, it is very possible that the 800D is your option. At least it’s a great camera with a lot of potential that won’t let you down ;).

If you found it useful, know someone who is looking for a camera or simply want to thank the work we do for you, share it on your favorite social network or give it a “Like”. Thanks and see you soon!
