Time passes for everyone, including our cameras. This camera is no longer in stock, but its next higher model is: The Canon 800D. Be sure to take a look at its benefits in our article.
In an attempt to outshine the latest releases from its main competitor, in early 2013 Canon released the Canon EOS 700D (also known as the T5i). In today’s article I will make an analysis of its main characteristics and its corresponding comparison with previous models. To learn more about Canon, its cameras, mounts, terminology, etc., do not miss this guide that we have prepared for you. Where are we on the “chain of evolution”?
As requested by many Canon users at the time of analyzing the Nikon D5300, here is a map of the different models that the Canon brand has been launching in recent years with their corresponding clarification of the type of photographers each one is aimed at. of them. If you were a bit lost between so many launches, don’t worry, the following scheme will help you to locate yourself better (click to enlarge):
To understand the above graph, remember that if you have no idea what APS-C or Full Frame means, I recommend that you read the following article: Types and characteristics of photo camera sensors.
Who is the Canon 700D for?
In the “map” of Canon cameras, each of the brand’s models is ordered according to the type of photographer they try to satisfy (beginner, intermediate, advanced and professional).
The Canon EOS 700D is intended as a model of “entry into the SLR world” and that tries to replace, or better said, update its predecessor models: the Canon 600D and the Canon 650D (we will see later if it could achieve it).
In summary, the Canon EOS 700D is an ideal camera both for the photographer who is taking his first steps in the world of SLR photography and for those who, not wanting to spend thousands of Euros on professional equipment, are looking for more professional photographic results.
Here it is important to remember what we always say: what really matters to get amazing photos is not the camera, but you. The camera is just a facilitating medium, nothing more. The real magic happens in your eyes.
That said, unless you decide to take the leap to become a professional, the Canon 700D has every chance of becoming your faithful companion for many years to come.

Main novelties
- Auto focus: the Canon 700D incorporates a hybrid focus system that allows you to use the continuous auto focus system inherited from its predecessor or, by simply turning the lens focus ring, work in manual mode. Simple and effective.
- Accessibility: This new Canon model has even more simplified access to the different camera settings. Using a simplified dial that rotates 360 degrees, you can quickly switch between the camera’s various shooting modes.
- Creative modes: these modes have been greatly expanded. You will have a large number of shooting modes and creative filters available that are applied live from the live view (screen) allowing you to preview them before taking your photos. They are ideal for all those beginner photographers who do not want to go through the computer to retouch their photos.
- More solid construction: The Canon 700D has been improved in terms of body construction, making it more durable and comfortable to hold. Despite this, it has managed not to increase its weight, in fact, it is 5 grams lighter.
- rotating screen: The 700D includes as one of its most outstanding features a 3-inch fully rotating multi-touch screen that, despite not having been improved compared to its predecessor, is worth noting. With it you will be able to easily scroll through the menus, scroll through the photos or zoom by sliding your fingers while you preview them.
- Video controls: the new Canon 700D incorporates the possibility of adjusting video parameters such as aperture or shutter speed. These new features added to the hybrid focus system make recording videos a true experience. You will have no excuses not to get the most out of this mode.

Mario’s opinion
Guys, when Canon first released the 700D, they put it at a pretty exorbitant price point that made it hard to make a decision. Currently its price has dropped quite a bit, making it more affordable and turning it into a more than accurate opinion. If you are looking for a first reflex camera with almost semi-professional features and that will last you a while without having to update, the Canon 700D is right now a great candidate.
