It is already very difficult to find a Canon 550D circulating for sale yet. Cameras have arrived from the hand of Canon that replace it, further improving its performance. Take a look at the Canon EOS 800D.
In daily life I am more a Nikonist than a Canonist. And apparently I’m transferring this “preference” of mine to the blog. So today I will do justice by talking about one of the best SLR cameras designed for both amateurs and semi-professional use. I mean the Canon 550Dalso known as the Canon Rebel T2i. This model comes to replace the previous Canon 500D keeping the best of it and adding some more advanced features.

Features and technical specifications of the Canon EOS 550D
The Canon 550D camera, while still mid-range, has almost 18 actual megapixels of resolution (much more than other competitive cameras considered professional). It also has an ISO range that reaches up to 6,400, and can be increased to 12,800 by forcing it. For video lovers, the Canon 550D is a delight: it records video in different resolutions and can reach Full HD (1080p) at 30 frames per second. If we lower the resolution to normal HD, the camera allows us to obtain more frames per second (fps) reaching up to 60fps, highly recommended for Slow-Motion scenes. In addition, it allows us to connect an external microphone. The camera, in burst mode, can shoot up to 3.7 photos per second, making 34 continuous JPG photos without resting or 6 continuous RAW photos. One of the things that few cameras in its range offer is the HDMI connection, something that the Canon 550D boasts.
Anyway, for many the Canon 550D is a Canon 7D on a small scale and at a reduced price. The best of this camera:
- Automatic sensor cleaning.
- Many megapixels.
- Full HD video at 30fps.
- Support for over 160 lenses currently.
The worst thing about this camera:
- Burst shot. Barely 3.7 fps.
- Only 9 autofocus points.
- No continuous focus during movie recording.
Competitors of the Canon EOS 550D
This model competes in features and specifications directly with the Nikon D3100 and D5100, although in certain aspects it even surpasses the famous D90.
Photos taken with the camera
Although it is the photographer who takes the photo and not the camera, sometimes we need to see a little test of the results achieved with the camera in order to get an idea of ββthe type of photos that we can expect from it. Below you have a small selection of photographs taken with a Canon 550D.

Price
Right now it’s hard to find DSLRs with the same features as the 550D at a similar price point. You can currently buy it on Amazon:
In short: These are the few cameras that come to mind when you think of digital SLR cameras that offer a good performance / price ratio and also do not become obsolete in a short time. Just as I insist to all my amateur Nikon readers about the D3100, those of you who want to take your first steps with the Canon really can’t think of a better option than the 550D.
