There is no doubt that cats have a special sensitivity, much greater than that of humans, and even that of other animals. But, are they able to predict the death of people?
This great question seemed to have had the answer when the story of the pussycat Oscar became popular in 2007. He lived in a sanatorium and had certain attitudes that were soon discovered to predict people’s death. For example, if he left it in the room of a person who would soon die, he would meow in a special way.
He also used to stay close to those people who would soon die, barely moving until they drew their last breath.
Oscar’s case is one of the most famous, although not the only one. Many people even claim that their cats “guess” their owners’ illnesses before they do. How is it possible?
Sixth Sense?
Actually, rather than talking about the sixth sense, we should say that cats have five very, very sensitive senses. That is why they are able to detect things that humans cannot. For example, certain aromas emanated by people who are about to die.
That is, at least, what scientists speculate in the face of so much evidence that cats can predict death. This ability is what also makes them detect diseases in their owners, even without their knowledge.
For example, a study has shown that pets are able to detect bladder cancer just by smelling the urine of patients. There are animals that even
they can be trained to predict impending epileptic seizures or heart attacks.
But it is not only death, nor are cats a bad omen. For example, it is said that they can also “guess” pregnancies and future births.
permanent waking state
What scientists still do not explain is the guard and vigil attitude that animals take when a patient or their owners are sick.
Some scientists believe it has to do with cats’ ability to mimic their owners’ behaviors.
However, others think that cats and other pets have such noble feelings that they would never leave a person who needs their support alone. That they do it out of loyalty and out of a feeling of “humanity” that sometimes we don’t even have between us.
