Apple’s current device catalog has a clear protagonist: the iPhonethe product that provides the company with more than half of its income and which this year celebrated 15 years since the launch of its first variant.
The event Far Out This Wednesday’s Apple Showcase, in which the company is unveiling its main hardware innovations, including its new Apple Watch 8 and Ultra and the AirPods 2 Pro, has not been an exception and is the stage where has introduced the iPhone 14 seriesits new generation of flagship mobile phones.
As has been usual in previous generations, the iPhone 14 family is made up of 4 different models, in order from least to most premium:
- iPhone 14 standard: 6.1 inch screen
- iPhone 14 Plus: 6.7 inches.
- iPhone 14 Pro: 6.1 inches.
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: 6.7 inches.

The lineup of new products is precisely the first novelty in Apple’s strategy for the iPhone 14 series, since unlike the previous 2 generations, replaces the basic, small-screen mini model with the iPhone 14 Pluswith more modest features than the Pro series but an identical screen size to the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The iPhone 13 Mini, the most recent version, had a 5.4 inch screen and frameless design, while maintaining the same features as the standard iPhone 13, but in a smaller format not only compared to Apple’s flagships but also the rest of the industry.
The end of the mini variant leaves the most compact devices in Apple’s catalogue: Standard iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro (6.1 inches) and the affordable model iPhone SE 2022presented at the beginning of the year, with 4.7 inches but with quite pronounced frames compared to the flagships.
iPhone 14

The standard model of the new generation of Apple smartphones has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with FHD+ resolution (2532 x 1170) and with 1,200 nits brightness, identical to last year’s iPhone 13.
It features an aircraft-grade aluminum design with water and dust resistance. It is sold in 4 colors: midnight black, white, blue, violet and red.
The panel of the iPhone 14 keeps the notchfrom previous generations to house its Face ID facial recognition system and its front camera, with a True Depth camera and a 38% improvement in low-light photos and videos that allows you to focus on different distances, for example, in group selfies.
The new terminal works with the same high-end processor of the previous generation: the A15 Bionic chipwith support for 5G networks. Its 5-core GPU is 18% faster, its CPU has 6 cores and its Neural Engine is 16 cores.

Its camera is also similar to the 2021 iPhones, as it makes use of a dual rear setup composed of a 12 megapixel main lens with a larger sensor and 1.9 micron pixels and f/1.5, which better adapts to movement and brings a 49% improvement in low light.
It is completed with an ultra-wide-angle sensor at the same resolution. Deep Fusion is a new computational photography system that fuses multiple frames into a single image for low-light environments while retaining more detail, information and color in the image. Apple calls it the Photonic Engine.
The video also adds more advanced stabilization features thanks to the action modewith gimbal-like videos for when there is a lot of movement, as if it were an action camera like the GoPro
In terms of connectivity, the standard iPhone 14 and Plus have 5G. The US models will no longer include a SIM slot in favor of eSIM technology.
They also add new safety features: collision detection through the accelerometer, up to 256 times the force of gravity, and which is intended for traffic accidents in particular.
Internally it uses DDR4X technology for RAM, while storage is between 128, 256 and 512 GB. The battery extends the autonomy and, like the rest of the models, maintains the Lightning charging port Apple-specific, despite pressure from authorities such as the European Commission to make USB Type-C the sole charging port by 2024.

For emergency situations without WiFI or coverage, the new iPhones have satellite coverageThe new service, known as SOS Emergency via Satellite, allows you to connect in open places to connect to satellite frequencies.
The system guides the user to point the mobile phone in the direction of the satellite in order to communicate. It also reduces text messages in size by up to 3 times, so that messages can be transmitted in up to 15 seconds. Questions have also been added for the most common emergencies.
In case of emergency, Apple’s system sends the text messages to emergency services of each country. If they are not accepted, Apple makes the call using an automatic system.
The service will launch in November in the US and Canada and will come with two years of free service for buyers of a new iPhone 14.

The Plus variant is the big new addition to the iPhone 14 family, although Apple previously used this nomenclature in a different way, for its larger and more powerful models.
The new iPhone 14 Plus has a 6.7 inch screen with FHD+ resolution (2778 x 1284) that maintains the 1,000 nits of maximum brightness value and has the same features as last year’s Pro Max model, including the notchfor Face ID and the selfie camera.
However, Apple brings this large panel closer to users looking for a more affordable price, as it maintains the same internal and camera configuration as the standard iPhone 14: the A15 Bionic chip and dual rear camera 12 megapixels.
iPhone 14 Plus will be sold from 1,159 euros in Spain starting October 7th.
iPhone 14 Pro

Apple maintains the identity of its premium models in the iPhone 14 family, starting with the iPhone 14 Pro, the powerful model with compact dimensionswith a 6.1-inch OLED screen, although it improves the brightness to reach 2,000 nits outdoors, double what it has been up to now.
The iPhone 14 Pro also has the always-on display function introduced with iOS 16, a battery saving mode and the use of LTPO technology to reduce power consumption.
It features a surgical grade stainless steel design and ceramic shield protection. It is available in 4 colors: black, silver, gold and dark purple.
An important point of your screen is in the notchwhich disappears in favor of a perforated front camera at the top center of the panel, which in addition to the image sensor has the biometric sensors of the Face ID facial recognition system.

Dynamic Island It is an adaptive space that uses its own animations and transitions and that uses the system to differentiate functions such as connecting, calling, or using Face ID, among others. This information is displayed from the perforated camera and expands.

Low-energy cores reduce their consumption even further, up to one third of the consumption of the rest of current chipsIts Neural Engine reaches 17 billion AI calculations, with a 50% improvement in video games.
The iPhone 14 Pro also features the satellite telecommunications system.
Its RAM technology becomes DDR5the latest and fastest, while its storage can reach up to 1 terabyte in its maximum configuration.

The iPhone 14 Pro also makes the leap at the rear camera level, since its Triple setup is led by a 48-megapixel lens4 times more than the resolution it had in previous models, allowing it to record video in 4K and 30fps.
The main chamber groups 4 pixels in 1 for low-light conditions, and uses the photonic engine to capture twice as much light as iPhone 13 Pro.
It also adds a telephoto lens of 2x, compared to the previous 3x, with 12 megapixels and lfocal length intended for portraits.
The other lens is a 12 megapixel wide angle with up to 3x improvement in night photos. It also improves macro mode.
The flash also receives updates, with 9 LEDs and a new internal design to work adaptively and project up to twice as much light as before.
iPhone 14 Pro is sold in its entry version for 1,319 euros in Spainavailable from September 16th.
iPhone 14 Pro Max

Along with the iPhone 14 Pro model, as usual, Apple has also presented the premium variant iPhone 14 Pro Maxwith a larger 6.7-inch OLED screen, identical to that of the 14 Plus model.
In the rest of the features It is identical to the iPhone 14 Prosuch as the A16 Bionic processor, the satellite communications system, the elimination of the notch and the 48-megapixel triple rear camera with professional features.
It is sold for an entry price from 1,419 euros in Spain from September 16th.
