Idit Harel Segal is a woman from Israel, who took place in the news from the moment she donates a kidney to a 3-year-old boy and saves his life. However, this was not the only relevant thing, since the infant is from the Gaza Strip. As is known, these are countries that are in a war.
This happened because the woman he wanted his existence to help give life. Thus, she decided to donate a kidney. Although at first she did not know who would receive her organ, when she received the information that she would be a boy, she felt really happy, since she is a child educator.
Beyond the differences that exist between their nations, Idit only saw the positive side. I would be helping a little boy to have a better life.
What motivated you to make the donation?
This kindergarten teacher started a process of just over 9 months, in a group that linked donors and recipients. What led her to donate one of her kidneys was the memory of her late grandfather, who transmitted a very important message to her during her lifetime.
His grandfather, who survived the Holocaust, told him one day “live a meaningful life that adheres to Jewish traditions. There is nothing more important than saving a life”. With these words in mind, Segal decided to make the donation.
Nevertheless, the educator’s family did not agreeThey said that she was risking her life unnecessarily. Still, that didn’t stop her, in the end her relatives had to agree, support her and wish her the best in surgery.
The recipient would be a Palestinian child
Secondly, the recipient of the organ turned out to be a 3-year-old boy from the Gaza Strip. The little boy had congenital kidney disease and had been on permanent dialysis since he was born.
When Segal learned that his kidney would be received by a Palestinian boy, he preferred to hide it from his family. If the response to the decision to donate had been bad, he didn’t want to imagine what it would be like if they knew the recipient was Palestinian. She chose to let them find out after the surgery was done.
In this sense, the Israeli wrote him a letter. This note, among other things, said “I hope the surgery is successful and that you have a long, healthy and meaningful life.”.
An Israeli woman was also saved
The emotional action of Idit Harel Segal not only benefited the Palestinian boy. Because in order to speed up the donation process, the hospital suggested to the boy’s father that he donate a kidney to an Israeli recipientso it was.
In this way, a young 25-year-old woman, mother of two children, underwent a transplant that saved her life.
In June 2021, the Segal surgery and the transplant of the little three-year-old boy were performed. Everything went perfectly and even Idit’s family wished him good luck in the process..
