In San Luis Potosà and Guanajuato (Mexico) the use of 100% ecological refrigerators made with clay and a mixture of materials from rocks is already being implemented.
The impulse was given by a Mexican company that decided to manufacture this device so that rural populations can preserve food, drinks and medicines. In addition, their intention is to market it and extend it to other states through social development programs for rural communities that lack electricity.
This refrigerator called “Ecoplanet” is mainly made of mud and can maintain a low temperature of up to eight degrees Celsius using only 3 liters of water, which represents great energy savings.
This refrigerator is made up of two containers, between which a wet mixture of sand, gravel, granzol, marble and earth is deposited. It works by placing it in semi-shade so that the sun’s rays can make contact indirectly and evaporate the water from the wet mixture. This mechanism is what extracts the heat from the food placed inside.
Undoubtedly, this is an invention that, if accepted by governments in social development plans, could significantly improve the lives of the most remote populations, while contributing to caring for the environment and saving energy.
