What is a wide angle?

Before continuing, let’s put ourselves in situation. A wide angle lens is one whose focal length is less than that of a standard lens, usually below 25mm. Depending on the focal length you have wide angle, super wide angle and even fisheye. Although we will not include the latter in this article.

What is a wide angle used for?

I am one of those who say that you can achieve almost any photo with almost any lens, however, there are more suitable lenses for a certain type of photos. In this case, wide angles are mainly used for landscapes, be they day, night, urban or different. But they can also be used indoors, for large group photos or even portraits.

If you have doubts or want to see what kind of photographs you can achieve with a lens of this type, all you have to do is go through the article that we dedicated to it in its day on what life looks like with a wide angle.

What effects do I get with a wide angle?

In addition to covering a large part of the scene, much more than with any other lens, with a wide angle you manage to give depth to the scene.

On the other hand, these lenses also tend to create optical distortions and are more prone to ghosting or vignetting.
