As the years go by, you trust the stories of princesses and prince charming less and less. It is that real life is different from that of stories (luckily!).
However, being exposed to these ideas of love for so long can lead us to have an overly fanciful vision of what a relationship really entails.
Serious and lasting relationships must be based on several pillars: affection, trust, commitment. Actually, it is not enough just to want; a mature relationship also needs projects in common.
So there are things that do not happen in a mature relationship, and that you should try to avoid if you intend to go far with who accompanies you on this path.
1. They do not prohibit or distrust
This is possibly the most important rule when it comes to sustaining a relationship over time.
First of all, serious couples do not forbid things. They let the other make their own decisions, and the most they can do is advise or give their point of view. But they respect their partner as an independent person and free to make their own decisions.
But this is so because solid couples trust. They do not worry that the other lies or deceives them.
Without trust, it is not possible to build a relationship over time, since it is the fundamental foundation.
2. They don’t stop talking about the important issues
Couples that last over time have the habit of talking a lot. But it is not about talking about the movie they saw at the cinema, or the latest news on Facebook.
The important thing is to talk about the important issues that really concern them. And above all, plans for the future. Couples are made up of two people, and the decisions that concern both parties must be discussed.
If one member of the couple makes all the decisions regarding the relationship, without giving space to the wishes of his companion, something is definitely not right.
3. They spare no support
Those who truly love each other expect the best for their partner. Therefore, supporting the other in their achievements is important to make the relationship solidify.
Long-lasting couples accompany each other, wish each other the best, and are always there to help when things don’t go well.
They don’t expect their partner to be invincible, but they don’t discourage them either. It’s that they know the other person and know when they need encouragement and when just a hug.
4. They don’t argue over money.
In solid couples, money is not a problem. It does not mean that they never have financial difficulties. But they know how to get ahead together, without depending on each other.
Within a mature relationship, each member of the couple manages their own economy, but both take care of the common economy.
They talk about money, they know how to keep accounts and they know how to understand when one of the two has to give a little more to get ahead. They understand that money is cyclical: today there may be more, tomorrow less.
For this reason, they do not make money a pillar of their lives, and their discussions do not go through it.
5. They do not seek to change
Last but not least, strong couples have come to accept each other with their strengths and weaknesses.
They have been able to understand and accept the bad things about their partner, understanding that the same thing happens in reverse. And they don’t try to change the other.
Without acceptance, there is no possible relationship. Not because people can’t change, but because the pillar of a mature relationship is loving the other person as they are.
