An SEO audit involves the analysis of various elements, both on-page and off-page: domains and subdomains, indexability, crawling errors, broken internal links, URLs, web architecture, tag killers, duplicate content, keyword density, image positioning (alt), sitemap, robots, incoming links, etc.
For this, we are going to recommend the use of 5 tools specially indicated to carry out a high-quality SEO audit in order to optimize a website as much as possible.
Tools to perform an SEO audit
1. SEMrush
Powerful payment tool (from $99/month) that allows the keyword tracking, pages, social media profiles, scheduled PDF reports, analytics reports with competitor insights (your best keywords, changes in domain positioning, organic competitors, advertising strategies and investment, competitors in Adwords, publishers and display advertisers, etc.), backlinks, video advertising, keywords, domains, graphics, position tracking, etc.
What’s more, this tool has functionality to automatically perform the SEO audit of a website, and includes other extra features such as monitoring your campaigns and competitors on social networks and monitoring your brand’s reputation, among others.
On their semrush website, you can see all these features in depth and test some of them.
2.Screaming Frog
If you want to start with a tool that allows you to do some things completely free of charge, this might be a good option. It is a desktop application that tracks links, images, CSS, and other web elements to diagnose their status from an SEO point of view.
You can analyze up to 500 URLs for free, and for this you only have to access your Screaming Frog website, install the application according to your operating system and start by entering the address of the domain you want to analyze. Depending on the size of the web, the analysis will last more or less time. Once finished, we can see a lot of information on how to optimize the web:
- response codes
- urls
- page titles
- meta descriptions
- Images
- Directives (meta robots tag, canonical links, and rel=next/prev annotations)
- XML Sitemap
3.Sistrix
This is one of my favorite tools, although… it is paid! It only has some free tools like:
- visibility index
- SERP Generator
- Video rich snippet generator for schema.org format
- Google updates
- The Guide to Hreflang for International SEO
- SISTRIX-Smart
You can see them at www.sistrix.es/free-tools/
Without a doubt, to start I recommend SISTRIX Smart, one of its free tools designed for small websites. And you can also try free access for 14 days by viewing all the functionalities: Keywords, ideas for keywords, opportunities, competition, links, social analysis, history of visibility in Google…
4.ahref
This tool, with plans starting at $99 per month, has the possibility of starting a two-week trial period to see if all the features are to your liking. Among these tools we highlight: competition analysis, keyword analysis, link analysis, content analysis, rank traking and web monitoring.
5.Moz
Another of the most popular SEO audit tools is Moz. It has some free but limited options for analysis of links, keywords, web performance, etc. You can access them at: moz.com/free-seo-tools. In addition, it also has a very interesting tool for local businesses: moz.com/local/overview
But really, the most notable features of this tool you will find in its pro version of All-in-One Website SEO, which you can enjoy for 30 days for free to try. There you will find everything you need to perform an SEO audit: rankings, competitors, visibility, keywords, links, site crawl, page optimization, etc.
If you are interested in delving into this topic, we recommend the training we have at the Academy of Consultants given by Daniel Bocardo called SEO Audit for Digital Marketing Consultants. In it, you will find how to carry out, step by step, a complete SEO audit that you can offer to your clients or apply to your own website.
