4 simple projects to do in winter and keep warm

Throughout the southern hemisphere it is winter, and a very cold winter! That is why it is best to be warm, even at home, so as not to turn on the heating so much.

These projects are cute and warm, but they also have the advantage that you can make them yourself, in a few steps, and reusing clothes that no longer work for you!

Also remember that clothing is one of the things that is polluting the ocean the most, after other materials such as plastics; Therefore, whenever you can give an old sweater a new use, you will be contributing your bit to take care of the planet.

Below you will be able to learn four different projects to do at home and keep warm: some mittens, a hat and some socks made with old sweaters, and some crochet slippers, knitted in the simplest knit, for which you can reuse the sole of those flip flops that have broken and you can no longer use in the summer.

Fingered gloves, or mittens, are warm and comfortable, and while you can’t do much in them, they’re perfect for going outside, walking, or even biking. By allowing you to move your fingers inside, they retain heat much more, which is why they are also perfect for children.

To make them, you just have to cut the old sweater with sharp scissors, following the shape of your hand as a template and using the first piece you have cut to make the second exactly the same.

Then you can sew or even glue them. Do this with the glove turned inside out, that is, with the part that will remain inside on the outside, so that you can later turn it around and it will be very neat. Also remember to cut a little more than the size of your hand so they are not small when sewing the pieces, but do not exceed you either, because they will stretch. You should take advantage of the elastic on the sweater to hold the glove on your wrist.

If you know how to crochet, and you have flip flops that no longer work, you may love this project. You just need to know the basic point: the simple string.

The trick is to use an awl to make buttonholes around the entire elastic, so that you can knit the first row over them. Guide yourself by the image to make the buttonholes.

Since the fabric stretches, they may work well if the flip flop is one size smaller than what you usually wear.

An old sweater is also ideal for making a warm hat. This is a great option for a sweater that you really like because of its pattern or material but is stretched or stained on the sleeves and no longer fits you well. You can even reuse a garment that has shrunk.

Its making is similar to that of mittens: you just have to mark the size, cut and sew or glue inside. You will also take advantage of the lower elastic of the sweater as an elastic of the hat.

In this video you can see the step by step and several finished models:

A cross between a slipper and a sock, these loose, long socks are perfect for wearing around the house. They do not have a sole, but they are easy to wash because you can put them in the washing machine like any other item of clothing.

Making them is very simple: you will have to cut two templates using the chest or back of the sweater, preferably the elastic one, if it is wide, or if it is not, use a sweater that stretches. Then you simply have to sew the sleeves to them, cutting them whole. You will only need to make a simple seam. You can decorate them with some decorative stitches.

Enjoy the winter!
