We always say that photography is about telling stories, that beyond technique, composition or theme; what really matters is to transmitexplain, excite.
And I wonder, is there anything more moving than the childhood? Is there a more powerful message than storing those ephemeral and wild memories of the best times of a human being?
I would say not.
So, as a mother, a piece of advice that I try to apply to myself every day. Do not fall into laziness and take photos. You may not see how the seconds run from day to day, but the hours, days, months and years fly by, run by.
I personally believe that there is no more exciting project than explaining the history of our boys and girls. Nor do I think you can give them a better gift than allowing them to transport themselves to their childhood as if it were a time machine. So, that said, don’t stop taking pictures ❤️.
Before continuing, I would like to recommend our most complete guide on children’s photography. In it you will find all the information related to the photography of children from 2-3 years old.
Tips for photographing childhood
This is an article in which I have promised you inspiration in the form of images. And what is promised is debt, but I always like to share with you some basic tips with which to spice up the photos 🙂
- Photograph the magic of everyday life: everyday life (bathtubs, dinners, bedtime stories, games, mess…) is where I think the true magic of childhood is hidden.
- Let them be themselves: To capture their true essence, try photographing them in their sauce, without posing.
- Be a simple observer With wide open eyes.
- Photograph the details to help you explain a general story: dirty or scratched knees, chubby little hands, a tiny earlobe…
- Photography in all possible scenarios: out laziness 😉 if you go hiking, take your camera, if you go to the pool, also, always, whenever you can, camera in hand. It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to take your DSLR to the beach, we all have a smartphone with a camera 🙂
- Take advantage of the light of dawn and (more likely at sunset) it is a warm and soft light that links very well with the purity and warmth of childhood.
- Try to convey your personality nobody knows them better than you ;).
- Avoid clichés and posture so in vogue lately.
- Use all the photographic resources and techniques you have learned to help you explain your story.
- Be careful with the focus, set your camera to mode AF-A or AI Focus.
- Work in burst.
- Pay attention to the minimum speed of your camera. As the children move fast, try to make it fast enough so that they do not get moved (unless that is what you are looking for).
- Stand up to him.
- Do not limit yourself to the stiff smiles, look for the spontaneity of a laugh, but also of a cry or a tantrum. Everything is part of them and them.
- Make a selection and keep the best ones (10,000,000 photos stop being a good gift and become a punishment 😉 ).

And now yes, after doing your homework, I leave you with this gallery of 33 images full of childhood, I hope they inspire you to grab your camera, whatever it is, and get down to work portraying that wonderful and unrepeatable time that is childhood.
I hope you enjoy them.
Have you ever dared to portray childhood in any of its forms? The truth is that sometimes what we have close is our best photographic project. In my case, it has been, and I hope it will continue to be.
Personally, I had a hard time realizing it. Sometimes we are tempted to set ourselves exotic, frustratingly unrealizable goals. Luckily, I didn’t realize it too late ;).
Because I may have many projects in mind, but only one reminds me every day how wonderful life is, and allows me to stop time in one of those precious and unrepeatable moments that I am lucky enough to be an observer of.
So please, have sons or daughters, nephews or nieces, grandsons or granddaughters, little brothers or sisters… you have the ability to create precious memories for them and them. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity. Take photos and photos and more photos!
