18 micromachismos in 3 minutes: can you identify them?

The term micromachismo has become popular in recent years. It was proposed by the psychologist Luis Bonino Méndez to refer to daily and sometimes imperceptible attitudes that reaffirm the dominance of men over women through gestures that threaten their autonomy.

The term has been questioned, but many believe it to be very accurate, and a Spanish production company, Noveno B Producciones, has made a short in which 18 acts of micromachismo take place in just three minutes.

Can you identify them?

At the end of the video, there is a recount of the 18 micromachismo observed during the short filmand finally, the men in the video offer a message on how to recognize them and why it is important that efforts be made to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, them from our lives.

Some of the examples of sexist acts observed in the video are: calling a woman exaggerated for showing discomfort, the way in which the men jump into the water while the women take care of the food, how one of the men asks for a beer from the pool, and more.

It is important to recognize that, as mentioned by one of the male characters at the end, micromachismos can be carried out by both men and womenbecause they are the result of an education -or lack of it- in which women are treated as subalterns of men.

Micromachismos favor men, so it can be difficult for those born and raised in a macho culture to realize that they are inappropriate. That is why they must be alert, to identify them and modify those behaviors. For this, the dissemination of information of this type is very useful.

And you, did you manage to identify the micromachismos?
