MMore than 100 whales were rescued. The heroes were some villagers from Sri Lanka, who managed to return them to the sea when they saw them stranded. It is an event that has gone viral and calls for applause from the defenders of nature.
It is worth saying that the navy of that nation began the activity. But there were so many animals that they couldn’t cope! Therefore, the inhabitants of a nearby village gave them a hand. With excellent results!

They are aquatic mammals of the “pilot” race.
They are odontocete cetaceans, that is, they have teeth instead of the typical baleen of the blue whale. They are not large cetaceans: a very large adult male measures about seven meters. But such wingspans are rare.
It must be said that they are cetaceans known for their massive strandings. Rarely does one of these whales run aground in a solicit way. They always do it by dozens, reaching up to a hundred of these animals on the beaches.
Frequent animals in the waters of the Indian Ocean
Certainly, pilot whales often swim through these seas. In Sri Lanka, they are seen in large groups. They are agile and fast animals. The truth is that there is still no explanation for their collective strandings.
It is not always easy to save these whales. You have to take them to deep water so they can swim again. In any case, they are not the only cetaceans to which this happens. For some inexplicable reason, aquatic mammals suffer from this problem.
The advantage is that the pilot breed whales are small in size. Therefore, a group of people can carry them. That is just what happened in this case. A hundred of these animals have returned to the open sea and have survived!
Marine mammals in danger of extinction
We have already said that it is not always feasible to save stranded cetaceans. For example, recently A third of a total of 270 whales stranded in Australia die. In addition, people do not always rescue them when they see them stranded.
Perhaps another piece of good news is that in 2020 humpback whales went from 450 to 25,000 specimens. Therefore, its population grows considerably. It is noted that the ban on their hunting is giving the expected results.
Hopefully the Sri Lankan experience can be replicated elsewhere. A community willing to safeguard the fauna of the sea. An excellent way to regain our ecological awareness!

Why do these animals run aground? It is an unsolved mystery. Just as there are other mysteries of nature that we have not revealed either. We still have a lot to learn from our planet!
