The stressed syllable It is the one that receives the greatest stress in relation to the other syllables within a word, that is, it is the one that is pronounced with more force. For example: in-clu-Zionre-fle-jo, bruh-ju-la.
The rest of the syllables in the word are called unstressed syllables and are pronounced with less intensity.
The tonic syllables are those that carry the accent of the word, but do not necessarily carry an accent:
- accentuation with tilde. For example: excursionZionsubordinatestion, dadjaro, murciélake, seapull.
- Phonetic or prosodic stress. For example: to mytadcombuyregait, pairwhat, vista, plomo, coveboozo.
Spanish is a phonologically relevant accent language. This means that the position of the accent can determine the meaning of a word. For example: The man reacted with jublio. / The man is joy. / Next year I joy.
